Bermuda National Gallery

Climb the grand staircase inside Hamilton City Hall to explore the Bermuda National Gallery. Opened in 1992, the gallery houses Bermuda's national art collection and connects the island’s community through art, culture and dialogue. A dynamic exhibition space with an energetic staff and volunteer team, the Bermuda National Gallery hosts engaging exhibitions, events and programmes for all ages. With several gallery spaces under one roof, it provides a national platform for local artists and presents their work alongside international exhibitions. Currently on display in the Watlington Room is 'I Am Because You Are' the first solo exhibition by Gherdai Hassell. Driven by an exploration of her ancestral heritage, in this exhibition the former Bermuda Biennial artist examines the lasting impacts of slavery through a series of striking portraits, text and installation inspired by historic photographs in the Bermuda Archives. Also on display in the Humann and Young Galleries is 'Illusion & Abstraction: Capturing the Landscape' which looks at the ways in which artists have both faithfully translated and refracted the landscape by examining our relationship with the natural world through three distinct lenses: realism, depth and space; atmosphere, colour and light; shape, form and line. 'A Source of Inspiration: St George's Through the Bermuda National Gallery Collection', housed in the Ondaatje Wing, celebrates the old town’s unique place in Bermuda’s historic, contemporary and artistic landscape, offering an original perspective on life in St George’s in the 20th century. Tours of the gallery and all current exhibitions can be organised, free of charge, for groups large or small. Please call ahead to check on availability. Admission is $5 for adults, free for BNG members, seniors, students and NARM members.
