About Birdsey: Stories and Sentiments, A Retrospective
The Masterworks Museum of Bermuda Art is currently exhibiting a retrospective of local artist, Alfred Birdsey. The exhibit, held in the Butterfield Gallery, transports visitors back in time to Bermudian landscapes held in memories of travellers and residents alike. Buoyed by colour and abstraction the show provides within a shadow of a doubt that Mr. Birdsey was a creative genius living and working in Bermuda for over six decades.
Born in England, Birdsey became Bermuda's first modernist painter and redefined the island with abstract oils and watercolours. The retrospective, curated by visiting Vernacular Art enthusiast, Carole Reed, and the Masterworks Team of Jasmine Lee, Museum & Gallery Exhibitions Officer, and Sara Thom, Curatorial Researcher, offers a comprehensive survey of the entire career of this Bermudian artist through countless works loaned from private collections and museums, including the Bermuda National Gallery, and the Estate of Alfred Birdsey.
Stories and Sentiments is open to the public from Monday, November 14, 2022 through to Saturday, February 25, 2023. The Masterworks Museum of Bermuda Art is open Monday-Saturday, 10am-4pm.
