The Art of Michael K. Frith: From Pencil to Puppet
Bermuda National Gallery

From Pencil to Puppet will celebrate Bermuda's connection to the global phenomenon Fraggle Rock through the work of Bermudian-born artist and designer Michael K. Frith, who helped create the Muppets and brought the Fraggles to life. Inspired by Bermuda's Crystal Caves and island culture, the show's underground world embodies themes of community, interdependence, and shared resources that mirror island life. The exhibition features original puppets, sketches, and behind-the-scenes stories, showcasing how Bermuda's natural beauty and creative spirit have been immortalised in a beloved series seen around the world.

For California-based Bermudian artist Soleé Darrell, painting is a deeply present, almost ritual practice rooted in intuitive colour. Working on stretched silk velvet with powdered pigment dye—applied by hand, brush, or poured in fluid gestures—her abstract works echo the vivid hues of Bermuda and memories of home. With only about 30 minutes before the pigment dries, speed and spontaneity are essential, grounding her in the moment as colours shift unpredictably. For Darrell, art is both creative and sacred; her kaleidoscopic works invite meditation, reflection, and a sense of connection to nature, spirit, and one another.

On display through to October. Exhibition curated by Eve Godet Thomas. With support from Nekeisha Cameron, Faye Cook, Jasmine DeSilva, Chen Foley, Deborah Jackson, Sylvia Jones, Delight Morris, Megan & Roddy Nesbitt, Susan Pateras, Dennis Pimentel, Alexia Seymour Crofton, Michelle Seymour Smith, Bill & Georgia Wharton and Desiree Wingo.

Join us for a goodbye party for beloved Frith-designed Muppet, Fozzie Bear!

Say bye bye to our beloved bear. The Art of Michael K. Frith: From Pencil to Puppet was initially due to close in May but will now be on display until the middle of August. Most of the puppets have been able to extend their stay at the Gallery, but Fozzie Bear has to leave for his next commitment at the National Comedy Center in New York City.

Join us to toast to Fozzie Bear, take one last photo with him and send him on his way in style!
