Sustainability and Ecotourism in Bermuda

A Legacy of Loving Our Island Home

Here on our little island, sustainability isn't just a trend; it's genuinely woven into the very fabric of how we live, breathe, and cherish Bermuda. This deep commitment isn't new, either: our island nation passed what's likely the New World’s first-ever written conservation legislation to save the turtles way back in 1620. Talk about being ahead of our time! That incredible foresight paved the way for centuries of dedicated conservation work – such as BUEI’s Seagrass Restoration Project and BIOS’ marine life research – and helps shape the paradise you see today.

Be Green in Bermuda

Among the many brilliant colours that paint our landscape, "green" shines as one of the most important. With an abundance of breathtaking natural beauty to protect, Bermuda and our wonderful local businesses are working hand-in-hand to make our island even more socially, economically, and environmentally sustainable.

The Bermuda Traveller’s Pledge

As a visitor to Bermuda, we ask that you embrace our sustainability pledge, just as we happily embrace you and bring you into the folds of our island’s culture, heritage, and natural beauty. Together, we hope to maximise your experience as you minimise your impact.

  • I will take only photos and leave only ripples and footprints.
  • I will appreciate the resilient yet delicate beauty of nature as I enjoy daily life.
  • As I let myself wander, I will be mindful of where each step is placed.
  • I will be considerate to all living things and people who call Bermuda home.
  • I will seek out products and services that are kind to the environment.
  • And as I get immersed in the Bermuda way of life, I will do my part to preserve and protect this natural state of the island.
