The 17th Conference is jointly hosted by The University of the West Indies, HEU, Centre for Health Economics and The Bermuda Health Council.

As in previous Conferences which focused on selected themes, the 17th Conference will devote attention to 'Resilient Health Financing Systems in the Caribbean: Confronting Change, Transition and Transformation'.

Particular consideration will be centered on:

  • International, regional and national challenges and drivers of change in the policies and operations of national health financing systems and institutions (re: mix of demographic, epidemiological, environmental, technological, fiscal and social factors);
  • Case studies of change preparedness and change management ('what worked and what did not') for systemic and institutional resilience from the viewpoint of policy advisors and frontline managers in national health financing institutions; and
  • Emerging best practices in change management and sources of support to secure effectiveness and sustain health progress in the Caribbean.

 

PAPERS, PRESENTATIONS AND SESSIONS

We have a well-planned mix of:

  • Feature papers, panel discussions, peer reviews, facilitated dialogues and leadership roundtables;
  • Selected Caribbean and non-Caribbean speakers;
  • New and experienced presenters; and

BPGC's Bermuda International Gig (BIG) Regatta is a vibrant, friendly competition that brings together crews from across the UK, US, Bermuda, and beyond to row in our stunning turquoise waters.

Held every two years, this biennial event is a major highlight on our club calendar, offering exciting racing, unforgettable camaraderie, and the chance to experience Bermuda's unique maritime spirit.

Schedule of events:

  • Welcome Reception: Saturday October 24 - Pick up your event shirt, sign up for various social events, and meet other participating rowers. Light bites are provided.
  • Race Day 1: Sunday October 25 at East End Mini Yacht Club
    • The Maurice Johnson Memorial Sprint: Men's & ladies' crews take to Bermuda's waters for a day of heat racing
  • Race Day 2: Wednesday October 28 at Sandy's Boat Club
    • The Somers Medical Mangrove Bay Mash Up: We like to bring everyone together in a fun atmosphere of mixed co-ed crews, of local and visiting rowers, matched up for some friendly afternoon racing.
  • Race Day 3: Saturday October 31 at Spanish Point Boat Club
    • The Chubb Central Championship Course: The regatta finale has men's & ladies' crews return with the aim of leaving their fellow competition at the start line for another day of racing, followed by a Closing Party & Awards Presentation that evening.

Race crews are already set for the event, but all are welcome to spectate and socialize with local and international gig rowers!
