Immerse Yourself in Bermuda's First-Ever Art Month: A Celebration of Creativity, Culture and Connection

(Hamilton, Bermuda – September 18, 2023) – During October, the Bermuda Tourism Authority (BTA) invites visitors and residents to step into a world of artistic wonder and cultural exploration during the inaugural Bermuda Art Month from October 1 to 31, 2023. This month-long celebration promises exciting experiences with exclusive programming, uniting residents and visitors in a tapestry of creativity, innovation, and inspiration.

Bermuda Art Month is an initiative that highlights the island’s rich artistic heritage and creative prowess. From picturesque beaches to awe-inspiring caves, the island's captivating venues become a canvas for creativity to flourish. These immersive experiences showcase our commitment to innovation, fostering year-round engagement and offering unique experiences that draw visitors seeking authentic cultural connections.

A diverse lineup of events during Bermuda Art Month will capture the essence of the island’s artistic spirit and kick off with an inaugural affair aptly titled Artist’s Talks featuring local artist Gherdai Hassell debuting her special opening exhibit, “Thread Unraveling” at the Bermuda National Gallery on Sunday, October 1 from 3:30-5:30 pm (complimentary admission for all).

Another first for art lovers on the island will be the premiere of Bermuda Live Sessions, an intimate showcase of musical talent inspired by the hit series Tiny Desk on NPR, held at the Bermuda National Gallery on Friday, October 6, and Monday, October 27. Tickets can be purchased online at bng.bm

Art lovers will be able to engage their senses with captivating art tours, thought-provoking panel discussions, and elevated exhibits that showcase the talents of Bermudian artists. Guests can also experience the thrill of creating their own masterpieces through interactive art sessions in picturesque locations around the island and discover their artistic flair within centuries-old caves during sip-and-paint sessions.

Meredith Andrews, a participating photographer, expresses her excitement about Art Month: "As a visual artist, I find immense joy in capturing Bermuda's breathtaking landscapes. Bermuda Art Month provides a remarkable platform to share my passion and connect with fellow artists and art enthusiasts. This event unites us in celebrating the marvel that is our island."

Alshante Foggo, a Bermudian artist, shared her perspective on the significance of this event: "Art has the power to transcend boundaries and bridge gaps between different communities. Bermuda Art Month is an exciting opportunity to engage with the diverse stories and expressions of Bermuda's cultural fabric. Though art lives throughout our communities all year, for the month of October, we formally invite everyone to explore the island's artistic soul."

"The importance of art and culture as drivers of tourism cannot be overstated," says Ms. Tashae Thompson, VP of Experiences at BTA. Ms. Thompson adds, "Through Bermuda Art Month, we aim to attract visitors seeking immersive cultural experiences and nurture the local art scene by providing artists a platform to showcase their work internationally. During this month-long initiative, on-island visitors will have an array of offerings to experience, connecting them with our Bermudian storytellers and talented artists."

The BTA plan is to foster meaningful connections through art and creativity that endure long after the event concludes to establish Bermuda Art Month as an annual tradition on Bermuda's cultural calendar.
