Bermuda Highland Games

June 8, 2012, 3:30pm - 9:30pm

Sandys 360 Community Centre, Scott’s Hill, Sandys

The Caledonian Society of Bermuda presents the first Bermuda Highland Games, a fun-filled family event. Marching Scottish pipers and band performances by the Bermuda Islands Pipe Band, the Somerset Brigade Band, the Sandys Drum Line, the Bermuda Regiment and the visiting Atholl Highlanders Pipe Band and Corps from Scotland. Make an afternoon or evening of it.

The massed bands’ Retreat and Display: 8:30pm

Highland Games include: Tossing the Caber, field races and the 50 yard kilted running race, a 5K run/walk, children's running race, Tug o' War. Also scheduled, Highland dance competitions with international judging and grading. Teams for Tug O' War are encouraged—enrollment starts May 1, 2012.

Newport, Rhode Island to St. David's, Bermuda

The Newport to Bermuda Race starts in Newport, Rhode Island and finishes off St. David’s Lighthouse, Bermuda. This is an ocean racing classic and stands as one of the world’s premier blue water sailing races. The Royal Bermuda Yacht Club is the host club and will be open to the public for viewing of the yachts and special functions during the week.

John Lennon Double Fantasy Bermuda Tributes

Masterworks Museum of Bermuda Art, Botanical Gardens, South Road, Paget

In June 1980, John Lennon sailed to Bermuda on a yacht for an extended vacation. The experience sparked his musical genius and within just six weeks he wrote and completed 25 songs, breaking a 5-year writer’s block. The resulting comeback album was entitled ‘Double Fantasy’, named for a flower he had seen in the Bermuda Botanical Gardens.

Join us as Bermuda pays tribute to John Lennon’s creative genius during the first ever John Lennon Double Fantasy Bermuda Tribute with two great events: one held on June 21, 2012 and the other on September 21, 2012.

On Thursday, June 21, Bermuda honours this great music legend at the Masterworks Museum of Bermuda Art with the unveiling of a memorial sculpture, an art exhibit and the grand opening of the Double Fantasy Labyrinth. Click to the June Events Calendar for the full schedule of this event.
